A higher level of care may be needed first if someone is experiencing chest pain, an irregular heartbeat, or other cardiac symptoms, is in psychiatric crisis or having thoughts of self-harm, is experiencing severe agitation or paranoia, or cannot stay safe without medical support. When that's the case, our admissions team helps identify an appropriate provider, and Renova can serve as the next step once someone is medically stable.
Stimulant overdose can involve serious cardiovascular and psychiatric complications, including heart attack, stroke, seizures, and an abnormally fast or irregular pulse. There's no medication approved to treat stimulant use disorder itself, so behavioral treatment is the core of recovery. Renova's approach centers on individual counseling, group therapy, and relapse-prevention planning built around each person's specific triggers, along with drug and alcohol screening and treatment for co-occurring mental health concerns, including ADHD itself, which often needs its own ongoing management alongside recovery from misuse. Medication and Stimulant Treatment
No medication is currently approved to treat stimulant use disorder itself. Treatment focuses on therapy, structure, and relapse prevention rather than a replacement medication.
For clients with a legitimate ADHD diagnosis, stopping stimulant misuse doesn't mean abandoning ADHD management altogether, and medication decisions should always be made with a qualified prescriber, not stopped or changed suddenly on your own. Treatment can help separate legitimate symptom management from patterns that have become harmful, like taking more than prescribed, using medication to work or stay awake excessively, saving doses for high-pressure situations, using someone else's prescription, or depending on medication for confidence or emotional control.
Our admissions team can talk through whether continued, appropriately monitored ADHD treatment with an outside prescriber makes sense alongside your recovery plan. Renova does not manage ADHD medication prescribing directly.
